General Questions

Basic information about HM Blinds and how we work.

Our showroom is at 1092 Stratford Rd, Birmingham B28 8AD. We mainly cover Birmingham and much of the West Midlands, including areas such as Hall Green, Solihull, Sparkhill, Shirley, Acocks Green, Moseley and nearby neighbourhoods. If you’re not sure whether we cover your area, just send us your postcode and we’ll confirm.

Our usual opening hours are:

  • Monday – Saturday: 10:00am – 6:00pm
  • Sunday: Closed

Home visits are booked within these times and occasionally outside of them by arrangement.

We work with both residential and commercial customers. That means homes, rental properties, shops, salons, barbers, offices, clinics and more. We can suggest fabrics and blind types that suit higher–use commercial environments as well as homes.

We supply and fit a wide range of made-to-measure blinds, including:

  • Roller blinds, blackout and light-filtering

Measuring & Fitting

How home visits, measuring and installation work.

Yes. Our home visit for measuring and quoting is completely free and there is no obligation to order. We measure up, show you fabrics and talk through options. If you’d like to think about it, that’s absolutely fine – you can contact us later if you decide to go ahead.

It usually takes around 20–45 minutes, depending on how many rooms and windows you have. We work through each room, take accurate measurements and show you fabric samples in the actual room light.

No, you don’t have to measure anything before we come out – we’ll do all the accurate measuring for you. If you’d like a rough guide price before booking, you can send approximate sizes or photos via WhatsApp and we’ll give you an idea.

We aim to keep disruption to a minimum. We bring all tools and fixings, protect the work area where needed, and tidy up any dust or packaging afterwards. Most standard installations are completed in under an hour depending on how many blinds are being fitted.

In most cases, yes – we can remove old blinds or curtain poles as part of the fitting work. If there is anything unusual or fixed into tiles or special surfaces, we’ll discuss this with you on the home visit so you know what to expect.

Products, Fabrics & Care

Information about fabrics, blackout, cleaning and child safety.

Yes. We have a wide range of blackout fabrics, especially popular for bedrooms, nurseries and home cinemas. Depending on the window type and how dark you need the room, we’ll suggest roller, Perfect Fit or other suitable options.

For rooms with moisture and steam, we usually recommend:

  • Moisture-resistant faux-wood venetian blinds
  • Suitable PVC or moisture-resistant roller fabrics

These options are easy to wipe clean and won’t be affected by humidity in the same way as some standard fabrics.

Yes. We follow child-safety guidelines and can fit safety devices for chains and cords where required. We’ll also talk you through cordless and motorised options if you prefer a fully child-safe solution for nurseries and children’s rooms.

Care depends slightly on the blind type, but general tips include:

  • Regular light dusting with a soft cloth or duster.
  • For roller and vertical fabrics, gently wipe with a damp cloth – avoid harsh chemicals.
  • For venetian slats, a soft brush attachment on a vacuum can be useful.

We’ll give you specific care advice for the blinds you choose at the time of fitting.

Prices, Quotes & Payments

How pricing works and what’s included in your quote.

The price depends on several things: blind type, fabric range, window size and how many blinds you need. There is no “one price fits all”, but we always provide a clear, itemised quote so you know exactly what each window costs.

You’re welcome to send approximate sizes or photos first if you’d like a ballpark guide before booking a visit.

Our quotes typically include:

  • The blinds themselves (made-to-measure, not off the shelf)
  • All fixings, brackets and necessary parts
  • Measuring and advice
  • Professional fitting

Any extras (like motorisation or special finishes) will be clearly listed in your quote so you can see exactly what you’re paying for.

As blinds are made-to-measure specifically for you, we usually take a deposit when you place the order, with the remaining balance payable around fitting. Full details will be explained clearly at the quoting stage.

Quotes are typically valid for a short period (for example 30 days), depending on fabric and supplier pricing. If you come back after that time, we’ll re-check prices and confirm everything with you again.

Yes, we regularly work with offices, shops, salons, barbers, restaurants and clinics around Birmingham. We can recommend practical, long-lasting blinds that provide privacy, glare control and a professional look.

We understand that businesses need to keep disruption low. We’ll do our best to arrange measuring and fitting at times that work for you – such as early mornings, later in the day or quieter periods where possible.

If you have requirements relating to fire-retardant fabrics, light control for screens, privacy for treatment rooms or other needs, let us know. We’ll talk through suitable products and provide options that match your requirements.
